Tattoo Aftercare
Treat your new tattoo as an open wound. The three most important things for tattoo aftercare are cleanliness, moisturization, and protection. Post procedure, allow the plastic wrap to remain on for 1-2 hours before removing, then follow the steps in our Cleaning and Moisturization Guide:
Cleaning and Moisturization Guide
- Clean your tattoo by gently rubbing under warm water with a light unscented hand soap
*Dial hand soap is recommended. - Pat dry and allow the area to dry completely (3-5 minutes).
- Apply a thin layer of unscented moisturizer.
*Aquaphor, Cetaphil, CeraVe, or Lubriderm are recommended - Moisturize at least THREE TIMES PER DAY for the next month.
- After each wash, be sure to pat completely dry and remoisturize.
- If the tattoo gets dirty or you notice any excessive leakage, clean your tattoo as soon as possible by repeating these steps until peeling and/or scabbing has fully disappeared.
Aftercare Tips
- Resist the urge to pick or itch your tattoo.
- Limit sun exposure to 30 minutes or less per day.
- Try to avoid activities that cause excessive sweating, as sweat can carry bacteria.
- Avoid abrasions. Pat dry after washing and wear soft clothes. A gauze pad may be used.
- No swimming or prolonged soaking in water until the tattoo is fully healed (baths, hot tubs, pools, ocean, etc.).
- Minimize flexing, stretching, or movement of the tattooed area to prevent scab cracking.
- Keep your tattoo away from unsanitary environments and avoid direct contact with pets.
- You can stop being extra cautious once the scab completely peels off, but continue moisturizing and avoid prolonged sun exposure.
Please don’t hesitate to contact your artist with any other questions or concerns you may have!
Piercing Aftercare
- Apply piercing saline spray twice a day and gently pat dry afterward.
- For specific piercings:
- Mouth: After each meal, use a saline rinse. Avoid spicy, hot foods, and alcohol for at least a month.
- Septum: If you notice jewelry buildup, clean the area with a cotton swab and saline solution.
- Nipple: Rinse off any jewelry buildup with warm water during your shower.
- Piercings can heal in as little as two months or take up to a year. Treat your new piercing with care, avoiding excessive friction, pressure, or contact with bodily fluids. Choose loose-fitting clothing and be cautious when sleeping, dressing, and cleaning. Do not play with your jewelry or attempt to change it until the piercing is fully healed.
- You can ease up on your strict routine once all swelling and redness have disappeared, and the piercing is no longer sensitive to the touch. If you experience any complications with your piercing, please don’t hesitate to contact us!
